- I want to take notes, copy snippets from a site and then have that 'linked' to that site as a bookmark. A rich bookmark so to say. With 'just markdown files' this is doable by manually keeping a scheme and metadata, but that is manual and hard to do. Same for taking notes within PDFs and ebooks.

However, Markdown is optional here; it also has an intuitive rich-text editing mode. In this mode, you even don’t need to know what Markdown is. Kardnote offers a balance of simple and powerful. Markdown is a language, but not a complex one. I’ve taught Markdown to people in under an hour. Lots of editors exist to make the Markdown writing process easier. I like Atom, or Haroopad, with a slight bias toward Haroopad for just notetaking. Importantly, both of these applications provide instant feedback.
We believe your data is always yours to own and control. Your notes are stored in markdown, which is an open format based on plain text files, and so should be readable in the future by any computer that can deal with text files.
